Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya, commonly known as Ayutthaya, is a city steeped in history and culture, located in the central plains of Thailand. Founded in 1350 by King U Thong, it served as the capital of the Kingdom of Ayutthaya, which was one of the most prosperous and powerful kingdoms in Southeast Asia. The city was strategically positioned on an island surrounded by three rivers, making it a thriving trade hub that attracted merchants from around the world, including China, India, Japan, and Europe. Ayutthaya's golden age saw the construction of magnificent temples, palaces, and statues, many of which still stand today as a testament to its glorious past. In 1767, the city was invaded and destroyed by the Burmese army, leading to its decline. However, the ruins of Ayutthaya have been preserved and are now a UNESCO World Heritage Site, drawing visitors from across the globe to explore its ancient wonders. The city is a blend of historical ruins and modern Thai culture, offering a unique glimpse into the past while providing the comforts of contemporary life. Visitors can explore the Ayutthaya Historical Park, which houses numerous temples and relics, or take a boat tour along the rivers to see the city from a different perspective.
